SINGAPORE — The water supply at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) on Pulau Tekong was restored on Thursday (Nov 21) night, 38 hours after water from the taps was reported to be discoloured.
National water agency PUB said that water supply at the site fully resumed at 9.30pm on Thursday. The water samples have been tested to be safe for drinking and consumption, the agency said in a Facebook post.
"PUB officers carried out overnight operations and have completed the flushing of the water mains serving the internal service pipes for all camps."
Investigations on the incident are ongoing.
Discoloured tap water was reported on Wednesday morning in some areas of the BMTC, where national servicemen undergo basic military training, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said earlier on Thursday.
“Essential water needs for servicemen, including drinking water and food preparation, have been met by alternative sources within BMTC and PUB-deployed water wagons,” Mindef said.
PUB said that it received reports of discoloured water from BMTC at 7.30am on Wednesday. It then sent its officers to the site to carry out flushing of the water network.
