SINGAPORE — A 30-year-old lorry driver was arrested on Wednesday (Feb 3) after his vehicle allegedly crashed into the rear of another lorry that had been pulled over by an officer from the Traffic Police. The driver of the other lorry and the officer were taken to the hospital.
In response to TODAY’s queries, the police said that the 34-year-old officer had stopped the lorry for a traffic offence at about 11.30am at the chevron marking between the slip road from Bedok North Avenue 3 and the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) towards Changi Airport before the Tampines Avenue 5 exit.
While the officer was conducting checks on the 68-year-old lorry driver in front of the officer's stationary vehicle, the second lorry crashed into the rear of the first lorry.
This caused the stationary vehicle to move forward and hit the officer and the elder driver.
The two of them were conscious when they were taken to Changi General Hospital.
The driver of the second lorry was arrested for careless driving causing grievous hurt and investigations are ongoing.
