SINGAPORE — The Elections Department (ELD) has warned the public of a scam message that has been circulating on WhatsApp asking people to sign up for a “general election project”.

The message claimed that the ELD is “hiring” 500 temporary workers for the “upcoming general election project” between September and October.

It also asked those interested to provide personal details such as full name, identity card number and their date of birth for “clearance”.

The ELD said in a statement on Friday (April 12) that the WhatsApp message is not an official notice put up by the department.

“The public is advised to exercise caution and not to provide their personal data without verification.”
