SINGAPORE — From next Monday (July 27), Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges will resume along some stretches of the Central Expressway (CTE) during the morning and evening peak hours, to manage congestion as more people return to schools and offices.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that it will be charging S$1 at these locations along the CTE:

• One gantry on the southbound CTE before Braddell Road from 8am to 9am

• A set of two gantries on the northbound CTE after the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) from 6pm to 7pm

ERP charges were temporarily waived from April 6, just before the circuit breaker period when schools and offices were closed to curb the spread of Covid-19.

This is the second time the authorities have reviewed ERP rates after the lifting of the circuit breaker on June 2, as Singapore gradually opened up the economy.

After Singapore entered Phase Two of the reopening on June 19, LTA said that it had observed a larger traffic volume along CTE at certain time periods.

“As more people travel to and from their workplaces, traffic volume has begun to build up again during weekday peak hours. This has resulted in localised congestion at specific locations along the CTE during the morning and evening peak periods,” it said.

LTA added that it will adjust the frequency of its reviews of ERP rates depending on the ground situation. They will be conducted once every five weeks after the next cycle in August.
