Fourth road fatality in just over a day after elderly cyclist dies in accident with tipper truck

SINGAPORE – An elderly cyclist was killed in an early morning accident involving a tipper truck on Saturday (Nov 4), making it the fourth road fatality in a deadly span of 30 hours.

SINGAPORE – An elderly cyclist was killed in an early morning accident involving a tipper truck on Saturday (Nov 4), making it the fourth road fatality in a deadly span of 30 hours.

The police said they were informed at 9.27am of the fatal accident along East Coast Road, after the junction of Still Road towards Siglap.

Paramedics pronounced the 78-year-old male cyclist dead at the scene. Police are currently investigating how the accident happened.

The police said the 64-year-old driver of the tipper truck was arrested for causing death by negligent act. 

TODAY understands that both men are Singaporeans.

Saturday’s accident makes it the third fatal road accident in 30 hours and the victim is the fourth fatality.

On Friday, three people were killed in two separate accidents within 12 hours of each other.

A 33-year-old off-duty policeman was killed in a collision between two motorcycles along the Marina Coastal Expressway towards the East Coast Parkway before the Central Boulevard exit at 5.13am on Friday.

The other motorcyclist, also a policeman, sustained minor injuries and was arrested for causing death by negligent act.

Less than 12 hours later, at about 4.40pm, the second fatal accident occurred when a van collided into the back of a lorry along Mandai Road towards Mandai Avenue.

According to Singapore Civil Defence Force, two men in their 20s – one from each vehicle – were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
