SINGAPORE — On the run for 13 years, Indonesian fugitive Adelin Lis will soon be repatriated to his home country.

The 63-year-old businessman is on the Interpol Red Notice list, which is issued to countries worldwide for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence.

Adelin was sentenced to 10 years’ jail by the Indonesia’s Supreme Court in August 2008 for corruption and illegal logging in North Sumatra, Indonesian media reported. He was the director of PT Keang Nam Development Indonesia when he fled his home country in November 2007.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a statement on Thursday (June 17) that Adelin committed immigration offences in Singapore and was convicted of making false declarations to obtain a visit pass on several occasions in 2017 and 2018.

On June 9 this year, he was fined S$14,000 for his offences and he has since paid the penalty.

ICA said that the Indonesian embassy in Singapore had offered to repatriate Adelin to Indonesia via private air transportation on June 16, but ICA declined this arrangement because the repatriation of all undesirable foreigners is independently conducted by the Singapore authorities.

“In accordance with ICA’s established procedure, Adelin Lis will be repatriated to his country of origin as soon as his commercial flight arrangement is confirmed,” the authority added.

Court documents showed that from Dec 24, 2002 to Dec 23, 2007, Adelin was a permanent resident of Singapore, using an Indonesian passport under his own name.

Sometime in 2008, he obtained a passport with the name “Hendro Leonardi”.

Between 2017 and 2018, he used it to enter Singapore on four occasions and also signed off on disembarkation cards under the identity of “Hendro Leonardi”.

He was arrested in May 2018 by ICA officers when he was leaving Changi Airport.

Adelin later pleaded guilty to the four immigration offences.
