SINGAPORE — The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) on Sunday (June 28) evening introduced two new candidates for the coming General Election (GE) via the party's Facebook page.
They are:
Mr Alfred Tan, 54, the director of food and beverage chain Kopi Ong. This is his first time contesting in a GE.
Ms Min Cheong, 35, a marketing and communications professional. This is also her first time contesting.
Both candidates have been spotted doing house visits and walkabouts at Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since the second half of 2019.
In a video announcing his candidacy, Mr Tan said that the benefits of a vibrant and enterprising economy must be directed to the well-being of society and its individuals.
“I believe in a democratic society where in Parliament, the views of the citizens are represented, where laws are debated, and established by the people and for the people, and where the Government is held accountable for the decisions it had made,” he said.
As for Ms Cheong, she is passionate about reforming the way people live and work, as part of an overall approach called “workforce wellness”. This includes matters ranging from socio-economic sustainability to personal well being.
“As a firm believer in open public discourse, it’s my hope that we will nurture a real appetite and aptitude for critical thinking and meaningful debate, empathy, as well as an unwavering desire to fight the good fight for people who need support, alongside causes worth championing,” she said.
Earlier on Sunday, the party had unveiled three out of four candidates who will contest Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC in the coming election.
They are Mr Bryan Lim Boon Heng, 43; Mr Damanhuri Abas, 49; and Dr James Gomez, 55.
