SINGAPORE — The annual light-up event along Geylang Road and Sims Avenue, to mark the fasting month of Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri for Muslims, will be postponed this year due to the circuit breaker, the People’s Association (PA) said.
The annual event, known this year as Hari Raya Light-Up 2020, was to have taken place over a month starting April 19, about one week before the first day of the fasting month.
It is an “annual highlight for the residents of Geylang Serai, and across communities in Singapore”, PA said in a statement on Tuesday (April 14), but added that it has to be postponed as part of the nationwide effort to encourage people to stay home.
The announcement comes a month after the association announced that the annual Hari Raya bazaars would be cancelled.
PA added that it would monitor the Covid-19 pandemic closely and announce the new date for the light-up ceremony in due time.
