SINGAPORE — The flying of kites, drones, and other aerial activities will be restricted over parts of Singapore on some days in the coming months due to preparations for the National Day Parade (NDP) in August.
The temporary restriction, which was announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Tuesday (May 28), is to ensure the safety of the public and the aircraft that will be flying at low levels as part of the parade.
CAAS said the restricted area (shown in the map below) will encompass the Padang and its surrounding locations, and will extend from ground level to 600 feet (183m) above mean sea level.
The restriction will take effect on most Saturdays in June and July — when rehearsals and previews are usually scheduled — and in the days leading up to the parade on Aug 9.
Unauthorised aerial activities conducted in the area during the restricted times can lead to a fine of up to S$20,000 for first-time offenders, and up to a S$40,000 fine and/or 15 months’ jail in subsequent instances.
