SINGAPORE — One of the Filipina victims of the car crash at Lucky Plaza has left the intensive care unit (ICU), while another remains in the ICU to undergo a second surgery for fractures in the pelvic area, the Philippine Embassy said on Tuesday (Dec 31).
However, the victim who has left the ICU is still under close supervision as doctors are assessing if she needs more surgical procedures, Philippine Embassy charge d'affaires Adrian Bernie Candolada told TODAY on Tuesday at about 10.54am.
Mr Candolada said the embassy cannot disclose which of the two is the one who has left the ICU, as the victims’ families have asked for privacy.
On Monday, the Manpower Ministry said that Egnal Layugan Limbauan, 43, and Arceli Picar Nucos, 56, were still undergoing treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Meanwhile, the other two victims — Demet Limbauan Limbauan, 37, and Laila Flores Laudencia, 44 — were discharged in the evening.
Ms Nucos’ younger sister, 50-year-old Arlyn Picar Nucos, and 41-year-old Abigail Danao Leste, died after a black Honda crashed into them at a pavement on Nutmeg Road, behind Lucky Plaza, at about 5pm on Sunday.
A purported recording of the crash, which looked to be surveillance camera footage, started making its rounds online on Monday afternoon. In it, a black car makes a U-turn and then suddenly went at high speed and hit a group of people on a pavement. The car crashed through a metal railing and sent the victims falling onto the shopping mall's carpark exit lane several metres below.
The driver of the car, a 64-year-old man, was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving causing death.
Friends and relatives of the victims have taken to Facebook to express their grief.
Addressing Ms Arlyn Nucos as his aunt, Mr Andrei Nucos wrote that "all of our relatives (are) now in pain because of what (happened) to you". Ms Leste's son, Mr Jhef Umoquit Leste, said in a Facebook post that he and his sister "can't go on" without her and they were at a loss over the tragedy.
