SINGAPORE — A man is assisting the police with their investigations after he was allegedly spotted holding a knife while standing outside his neighbour’s public housing unit on Tuesday (Sept 21).

The police said in a statement on Tuesday that they received a call for assistance at Blk 747C Bedok Reservoir Crescent at about 1.15pm.

“A person was allegedly seen holding on to a knife when standing outside his neighbour's unit,” the police said.

The police did not provide the man’s age.

When police officers arrived, the person was found to have locked himself in his own unit, and had refused to open the door.

“Officers from the Crisis Negotiation Unit and the Special Operations Command were subsequently deployed to the scene,” the police said.

The Crisis Negotiation Unit includes police officers and psychologists trained in negotiation tactics, including how to handle cases involving barricaded subjects or those who attempt to commit suicide.

“Officers eventually convinced the person to open the door,” said the police. “No injuries were reported. The man is currently assisting in police investigations."
