SINGAPORE — A 58-year-old man, already facing charges of theft and drugging a woman in order to rob her, was handed two more charges on Thursday (Oct 10) for allegedly doing the same thing to two other people.
Oh Koon Shin was charged last month with causing a woman to take Zopiclone, a sleeping pill, at Queenstown Polyclinic on Sept 9, with the intent to commit theft. He is also accused of stealing S$2,500 from her then.
Court documents showed that on two separate occasions, Oh allegedly led two more people to take Zopiclone and stole from them.
On Aug 31, he allegedly drugged Tng Kwee Huay at an open area in front of Block 318A, Jurong East Avenue 1.
He was earlier accused of stealing a wallet, S$2, a gold bangle worth S$770 and a set of keys from Tng that day.
Oh was said to have struck again on Sept 6, drugging Ang Poh Choo in the Queensway area.
He was previously charged with stealing S$400 worth of items such as a jade necklace and gold rings from Ang that day.
It was not stated in court documents how he allegedly made the individuals take the sleeping pills.
JAILED FOR SIMILAR TACTICS IN 2013
Oh made headlines in 2013 when he was jailed for two years for using similar tactics on his victims. At the time, he was convicted of stealing from two women over two days at Jurong Polyclinic in December 2012.
In one instance, he convinced a 62-year-old retiree to take diazepam, a stupefying drug, by pretending that he was a specialist. He stole her belongings after she became drowsy, including a ring on her finger.
Oh will return to court on Nov 7 and remains in remand.
Last month, he told a district court that he could not afford to make the bail of S$25,000 offered to him, and had no family to help him post bail.
If convicted of causing someone to take a stupefying drug with the intention to cause hurt, Oh could be jailed up to 10 years and fined. While offenders could also be caned, those above 50 years old are spared this penalty by law.
