SINGAPORE —  While in a relationship, his underage girlfriend sent him nude photos and obscene videos of herself. 

However, after their relationship ended and the girl had a new boyfriend, he got angry and decided to disseminate the obscene materials on a pornography and discussion website.

On Wednesday (March 11), the accused pleaded guilty to distributing obscene material online. He will return to court on April 16 to be sentenced.

The man, now aged 21, and his victim, now aged 20, cannot be named due to a court order to protect the victim’s identity.

District Judge May Mesenas called for reports to assess if he is suitable for probation, a community service order or a day reporting order.

The latter two are community-based sentences and will not result in a recorded criminal conviction. 

The accused first met the victim in 2008 when they were in Primary 4 and began a romantic relationship when they were in Secondary 1. The relationship ended in 2014 due to his poor treatment of the victim.

When they were together, the victim agreed to send the accused obscene videos and photos of herself via WhatsApp. It was agreed between them that the videos and photos were only for the personal viewing of the accused.

However, in 2018, disgruntled by his own failed attempts to win her back and the victim having a new boyfriend, the accused decided to disseminate the victim’s nude photos and videos on the internet.

He then created online accounts on a pornography website and on an online Reddit forum. The profile photo used in both accounts was that of the victim. 

From October to December 2018, the accused uploaded nude photographs and obscene videos of the victim on 12 occasions. 

In one instance, he posted an album on the porn site with 41 photographs of her in various stages of undress. These photos were later viewed at least 10,855 times. 

He soon amassed 200 subscribers and even asked for suggestions on future uploads. He also wrote: “If you’ve shared her or seen her anywhere else, feel free to tell me too.” 

On Dec 28, 2018, a police report was made against the accused after the victim discovered nude photographs and obscene videos of herself online. 

During their investigations, the police seized a black laptop and a hard disk from the accused.
