SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a 69-year-old SMRT employee was charged in the District court on Wednesday (Aug 29) with voluntarily causing hurt.
According to court documents, Shafuan Juraimi had slapped Mr Gian Cheng Kuan – who works as a service ambassador – once on his face at the Raffles Place MRT station train platform on June 25 last year.
Mr Gian had spotted Shafuan eating at the station – which is an offence – while performing crowd control duties, and advised the latter against doing so. But Shafuan did not comply, and instead, started to drink from his bottle.
After he was advised again to stop eating and drinking, Shafuan then slapped Mr Gian before fleeing.
According to a police statement on Tuesday, Shafuan was identified by officers from the Central Police Division through ground enquiries and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to two years, or fined up to S$5,000, or both.
