SINGAPORE — Singapore reported one new Covid-19 cluster linked to a foreign workers’ dormitory in the Sungei Kadut industrial estate on Monday (Aug 16).
Data from the Ministry of Health (MOH) showed that the number of patients who are in intensive care units (ICUs) has dipped from eight to seven.
This is the third day in a row that there has been a drop in the number of patients in ICUs.
There are 33 patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe, up from the 32 reported the day before.
Among these 33 patients with serious illness and the seven under intensive care, seven are fully vaccinated.
Of those who have fallen very ill, 32 are seniors above 60 years old, of whom 26 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, MOH said in its nightly update on the coronavirus situation.
It stressed that there is continuing evidence that “almost all fully vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected unless they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible”.
Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 9.8 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.2 per cent.
There are 426 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Monday.
99 ACTIVE CLUSTERS
Four clusters have been closed and there are now 99 active Covid-19 clusters here, each having between three and 1,155 cases.
The new cluster at 43 Sungei Kadut Loop dormitory saw an addition of 12 cases on Monday — it now has 13 infections linked to it so far.
Four more cases were linked to the My First Skool preschool cluster on Chin Swee Road. There are now 34 cases traced to it.
Earlier on Monday, MOH reported that there were 48 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, including nine that were not linked to earlier detected infections.
For the other 39 that were inked, 32 had already been placed under quarantine and seven were detected through surveillance testing.
Besides the locally transmitted cases, there were five imported cases, making a total of 53 new Covid-19 cases confirmed on Monday.
All of the imported cases were detected on arrival in Singapore.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has fallen from 526 in the week before to 331 in the past week. The number of cases with no known links in the community has also dropped from 148 in the week before to 89 in the past week.
The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 34.6 and 12.7 respectively.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore is now 66,225.
