Boon Lay Bus Interchange among 2 new Covid-19 clusters; 7 bus interchanges now active clusters

SINGAPORE — There were two new Covid-19 clusters reported on Sunday (Aug 29), one of which is linked to the Boon Lay Bus Interchange, and the other to a migrant workers’ dormitory located at 119 Neythal Road.

SINGAPORE — There were two new Covid-19 clusters reported on Sunday (Aug 29), one of which is linked to the Boon Lay Bus Interchange, and the other to a migrant workers’ dormitory located at 119 Neythal Road.

The new cluster at Boon Lay Bus Interchange means that there are now seven bus interchanges across Singapore that are active coronavirus clusters, with a combined 174 cases.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) earlier reported a cluster at Jurong East Bus Interchange on Saturday, Clementi Bus Interchange on Friday and clusters at the Punggol and Toa Payoh bus interchanges on Thursday. Covid-19 clusters were reported at Bishan and Sengkang bus interchanges earlier this month.

The Boon Lay Bus Interchange cluster now has 15 cases, with seven of these recorded on Sunday.

For the other bus interchanges, four cases were added to the interchange at Jurong East, six to Clementi, 17 to Toa Payoh, and three to Punggol. There were no new cases added to the clusters at the Sengkang and Bishan bus interchanges.

With the 119 Neythal Road dormitory identified as a new cluster, there are now seven dormitories linked to an active Covid-19 cluster.

The other six are: Tuas South Lodge, North Coast Lodge in Woodlands, 43 Sungei Kadut Loop dormitory, Homestay Lodge in Kaki Bukit, Westlite Mandai as well as Westlite Juniper, also in Mandai.

The cluster at the dormitory located at 119 Neythal Road now has four cases with three of them recorded on Sunday.

There are now 266 cases linked to the dormitory clusters.

SERIOUSLY ILL

Data from MOH showed that there are now six patients under intensive care, unchanged from Saturday.

There are 14 patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe, down from the 16 reported on Saturday.

Of those who have fallen very ill, 14 are patients aged above 60, of whom nine are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Over the last 28 days, the proportion of unvaccinated patients who became severely ill or died is 9.2 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.3 per cent.

There are 414 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Sunday.

ACTIVE CLUSTERS

One active cluster has closed and there are now 67 active Covid-19 clusters here, each having between three and 1,155 cases.

Earlier on Sunday, MOH said that there were 124 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 for the day, with 21 linked to Bugis Junction mall. The cluster now has 197 cases.

For the rest of the 103 cases, 69 were linked to previous infections — with 37 already quarantined and 32 detected through surveillance testing, MOH said.

Another 34 have not been traced to any previously reported cases.

There were nine imported cases, three of which were both detected on arrival in Singapore and another six who developed the illness during stay-home notice or isolation.

In all, there were 133 new cases recorded on Sunday.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from 240 in the week before to 634 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also risen from 86 in the week before to 152 in the past week.

Singapore has seen a total of 67,304 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.

VACCINATIONS

As of Aug 28, 80 per cent of the population had completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines, and 83 per cent had received at least one dose.

For other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing such as Sinovac, 165,981 doses had been administered as of Aug 28, covering 85,557 individuals.
