SINGAPORE — Cinema chain Golden Village (GV) has said there was no evidence of bed bugs at its Plaza Singapura branch, after a customer complained of bites after watching a movie there.

Facebook user Jeanette Tan wrote a post on Dec 27 claiming that her fiancé discovered bite marks on his right hand after they watched the movie Ip Man 4 at GV Plaza on Dec 20.

"The next day, the bite marks became worse and after consulting with professionals, we were told that these were bites from bedbugs," wrote Ms Tan in her post.

In response to queries from TODAY, GV said that it immediately blocked off the affected seats and activated its pest control unit to investigate after receiving the complaint on Dec 21.

According to GV, the pest control unit found no evidence of bed bugs in the area. The affected theatre has since been disinfected as a preventive measure.

GV added that pest control checks are conducted regularly at all its cinemas.

"We have always worked closely with our pest control unit and will continue to do so to see how we can improve on our cleaning processes," the cinema operator said.
