Measures taken by Tiong Seng Contractors — a construction company involved in the Housing & Development Board’s Built-To-Order (BTO) project along Punggol Waterway — to protect its workers when the haze hits:
Daily briefings on health hazards of haze are conducted; N95 masks have been issued to all 500 workers.
PSI readings are prominently displayed on-site.
Workers are encouraged to wear masks below PSI 200 reading. When PSI breaches 200 into the “very unhealthy” range, all workers must wear masks.
At PSI 300, which is in the “hazardous” range, all activities requiring good visibility, such as lifting or working at heights will be halted.
At PSI 400, a horn is sounded to signal that all activities on-site are to be stopped and workers will be asked to return to their dormitories to rest.
Despite intermittent orders to stop work when the worst of the haze hit last week, Tiong Seng Contractors said it remains on track to complete the Waterway Terraces BTO project by the first quarter of 2015.
