RIO DE JANEIRO / SINGAPORE – The Republic experienced history today when Joseph Schooling beat swimming greats such as Michael Phelps and Chad Le Clos to take the Olympic gold medal in the 100m butterfly event in Olympic record time.
Schooling clocked 50.83secs, beating Phelps, Le Clos and Hungary's Laszlo Cseh. The trio tied for Silver with a timing of 50.14sec.
Congratulations poured in fast and furious following Schooling's win, and he dedicated the medal to Singapore and all who've supported him.
