SINGAPORE — A full-time national serviceman with the Singapore Police Force has been arrested after he was found to have taken a police vehicle out for a joyride.

In its statement on Thursday (March 19), the police said that the 19-year-old serviceman was arrested for the theft of a police vehicle that day.

Preliminary investigations found that the serviceman — who is attached to the logistical support office of the Protective Security Command (ProCom) — had driven the police vehicle without authorisation.

Online lifestyle and news outlet Mothership first reported on the incident, after a reader sent in a video to the site.

In the video that was first posted on Instagram Story, a woman can be heard saying in the background that the police vehicle is “the vehicle for tonight”.

The 19-year-old driver seemed aware that he was being filmed in the video.

In its statement, the police said that officers of the force, including their full-time national servicemen, are expected to uphold the law and “maintain high standards of discipline and integrity”.

“Those who commit criminal offences will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” it said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
