SINGAPORE — To identify seniors affected by malnutrition early and encourage healthy living, the Paya Lebar Active Ageing Committee launched Eating Well in Your Golden Years this morning (Nov 10), is part of the constituency’s Wellness Programme.
About 200 seniors underwent a nutrition screening survey in face to face interviews conducted by Food Science and Nutrition students from Nanyang Polytechnic, who will help design simple and nutritious recipes for them.
The Paya Lebar Wellness Programme will also follow up with the seniors based on their screening results.
Oral hygiene and bone structure screenings were also conducted during the event.
Launching the project this morning, Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat noted that one in three senior citizens may not be getting enough nutrients in their diet, according to a study conducted by Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2011.
He added that the programme will complement national efforts to promote good dietary health among Singaporeans while enriching the lives of seniors.
