SINGAPORE — Where can one buy hawker dishes and durians for just a dollar each? Only in Yishun.

Yishun Park Hawker Centre’s “S$1 Carnival” returns for its second edition on June 29, from 11am to 5pm.

For just S$1, visitors can treat themselves to “generous sampling portions” of signature dishes from 26 participating hawkers, the Timbre Group announced on Tuesday (June 11).

Apart from the usual suspects, such as chicken rice, roti prata or even potato epok epok, there will also be stalls selling modern interpretations of local favourites.

These include Hakka meatball rice bowls by Ah Lock Tofu and Yap’s Noodle’s curry chee cheong fun.

Meat lovers can also get their hands on Smokin’ Joe’s wagyu beef burger, while spice addicts can dig into a plate of fiery nasi lemak ayam taliwang.

Timbre, which runs the hawker centre, said that each customer can buy up to two portions of S$1 food items each time they join the queue of a participating stall.

Aside from the hawker fare, there will be 1,000kg of durians up for grabs as well, said Timbre, with species such as Mao Shan Wang, Red Prawn and D24 going at S$1 each.

However, the number of durians that customers can buy will be based on how many S$1 items they have bought from the hawkers. Multiple receipts may be submitted, Timbre added.

Other highlights include a workshop on how to pick the right durians, and free activities for kids such as face painting.

Admission is free, and there will also be free shuttle buses provided from Sembawang, Yishun and Khatib MRT stations.
