SINGAPORE — With Hari Raya Puasa around the corner, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) today (July 14) reminded the public to exercise caution to minimise fire hazards and prevent outbreaks of fire when preparing for the festive season.

The SCDF urged residents not to discard items at common areas such as corridors, lift lobbies and void decks, and to instead make arrangements with the town council or management office to remove bulky items.

“Residents should also continue to play their part to prevent rubbish fires. Lighted materials such as cigarette butts must be completely extinguished and burning embers must be doused with water before disposal into rubbish chutes/or bins,” said the SCDF in a press release.

Other safety tips by the SCDF include checking decorative lighting fixtures before use and to light sparklers at arm’s length and only one at a time.

Short fire safety advisory announcements will be broadcast to Muslim radio audiences via Warna 94.2FM and Ria 89.7FM from tomorrow onwards for the duration of the festive period.
