SINGAPORE — Singtel customers across the island were hit by disruption to their landlines for about two hours on Thursday (Aug 8) evening, before it was restored just after 8pm.
The telco first alerted its customers at around 6pm on its social media platforms that it was aware some customers were experiencing issues accessing their fixed-line services.
While Singtel did not state in its subsequent updates where the disruptions were happening, comments on both downdetector.com.sg and on the telco’s own Facebook page seemed to indicate that it was dispersed across the island.
Users reported that they were experiencing disruptions in places that included Bugis, Joo Koon, North Bridge Road, Tuas, Changi and Bukit Panjang.
Some of the users commented that the two-hour long disruption had affected their business as their NETs and credit card machines were reliant on the landlines, and would not work as a result.
Fixed-voice services were progressively restored from 7.30pm onwards, according to a Singtel Facebook post, with “all fixed voice issues” resolved at around 8.14pm.
In response to TODAY's queries, a Singtel spokesperson said: "Some residential and business customers experienced issues with their fixed line telephony services from about 5.36pm today. Our engineers resolved the hardware failure and restored the service at 7.43pm. We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
