SINGAPORE — Rail operator SMRT said that it has lodged a police report against an “uncooperative” commuter who took a non-foldable bicycle on board a train despite the efforts of its staff member to stop him.

In a Facebook statement on Wednesday (Dec 16), SMRT noted that a video of the incident is circulating online.

It said that its staff member had tried to stop the male commuter from entering the train with the non-foldable bicycle at Woodlands MRT Station at about 7.10pm on Tuesday. Only certain foldable bicycles are permitted on trains.

However, the man was uncooperative and forced his way into the north-bound train.

He then transferred to a west-bound train at Jurong East MRT Station and exited at Pioneer station at about 7.50pm.

SMRT said that it has since identified the man, and a police report has been made.

For the safety and comfort of all commuters, it would like to “remind everyone to observe regulations when bringing foldable bicycles and personal mobility devices on board trains and buses”.

In videos that have since circulated online, the man could be seen uttering a string of expletives to other train commuters in a mixture of Malay and English.

Dressed in a grey T-shirt and a head covering, he was observed to be standing near an exit door.

A non-foldable bicycle was seen hanging from the railings of the train cabin.
