Suspect who threw flaming 'pipe-shaped' object into hawker centre arrested
SINGAPORE — A 49-year-old man has been arrested by the police for his suspected involvement in throwing a flaming, "piped-shaped" object into the Kebun Baru Food Centre on Tuesday (Sep 26) evening.

SINGAPORE — The police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in throwing a flaming, "piped-shaped" object into the Kebun Baru Food Centre on Tuesday (Sep 26) evening.
When asked about the incident on Thursday, the police described the projectile as a "pipe-shaped object" which emitted "sparks, smoke and fire".
TODAY understands that the suspect is a Singaporean. It is unclear when or where he was arrested.
Earlier reports said that the suspect had thrown a flaming object into the hawker centre at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said they sent a fire engine to the scene after being alerted to the incident, though the fire caused by the projectile had been put out by members of the public by the time they reached the location.
The police have classified the case as negligent conduct with respect to any explosive substance under Section 286 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
Investigations are ongoing
If found guilty, the suspect can be fined up to S$5,000 and/or jailed up to a year.
