Two men charged with drink-driving during circuit breaker; one accused of sending food to friend

SINGAPORE — Two men were charged on Friday (May 15) with various offences, including drink-driving, which took place in separate incidents last month.
Wong Teck Chye, 46, is accused of meeting a woman at a Selegie Road flat on the afternoon of April 24 to have dinner and a few drinks.
Then, at about 12.45am the next morning, he was nabbed while driving along Tampines Expressway towards the Pan-Island Expressway.
Court documents showed that he had allegedly left his home earlier to send food to the woman.
He was also speeding at about 133kmh, which exceeded the speed limit of 90kmh, and had 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of his breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
He told the court that he intends to plead guilty, and will return to court on May 29.
If convicted of his two charges under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, he could be fined up to S$10,000, jailed up to six months, or face both penalties.
If convicted of speeding, he could face an enhanced punishment of a fine of up to S$2,000 or a maximum of six months’ jail. Court documents showed that he was previously convicted of speeding in 2001.
If convicted of drink-driving, he could be fined up to S$10,000, jailed up to a year, or punished with both.
RODE MOTORCYCLE WHILE DRUNK
The second accused man, Arvinish N Ramakrishnan, faces one charge each of leaving his home without a reasonable excuse, meeting another person for social purposes and drink-driving.
Another man allegedly went over to the 23-year-old Malaysian’s Yishun home to drink alcohol in the wee hours of April 19.
Arvinish was then caught riding his motorcycle while drunk at about 3.10am along Yishun Avenue 6. Court documents showed that he allegedly had 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of his breath.
He is further accused of having left his home to take the other man back to his flat nearby.
He similarly told the court that he intends to plead guilty, and will return to court on May 27.
