Chelsea wins SEA Games taekwondo silver

NAYPYIDAW — Team Singapore won a medal in the South-east Asian Games’ taekwondo competition today when Chelsea Ann Sim finished second in the Poomsae Female Individual competition.

NAYPYIDAW — Team Singapore won a medal in the South-east Asian Games’ taekwondo competition today when Chelsea Ann Sim finished second in the Poomsae Female Individual competition.

The petite Meridian Junior College student, who stands at 1.50m and weighs just 37kg, had wanted the gold as a belated birthday present for herself after turning 18 last Saturday but had to settle for the silver instead.

She scored 7.765 points with her display to finish behind Myanmar’s Yamin Khine (8.200).

Lyna Chhoeung of Cambodia took bronze with 7.565 points.

Chelsea later paired up with Kang Rui Jie in the mixed team event but the duo finished seventh out of eight competitors. Kang had also finished fifth in the Poomsae Male Individual event.

In the men’s U-74kg event, Singapore’s Raja Zulfadli Raja Mahmod lost 14-0 to Samuel Morrison of the Philippines in the quarter-finals.
