SINGAPORE – As part of the lead-up to National Day and their 50th anniversary celebrations, Deloitte Singapore will be raising funds for charity by running 5,000km.

Called “5000 for 50”, the target is for Deloitte Singapore Partners, staff, alumni, clients as well as their corporate and community partners to clock 5,000km over 50 continuous hours to raise S$50,000.

All funds raised will benefit youths with special needs at Arts @ Metta, a programme under the Metta Welfare Association where these youths can develop as artists under a sustainable framework.

The event takes place from Aug 3-5.

It will be Deloitte’s first large-scale charity event and at least one Partner will run the 50 hours overnight. Partners and staff will be encouraged to pledge donations against their distances, while Deloitte will encourage their clients, corporate partners and members of the public to support and donate.

James Walton, the sports business leader for Deloitte Singapore and South-east Asia, said: “We wanted to do something special, as we bring together our staff, alumni, clients and our community partners to celebrate our 50th anniversary.

“We settled on a run because everyone can join, young or old, to walk, jog or run a few kilometres.

“It’s also a great opportunity to celebrate Singapore’s 52nd birthday so we are proud that this event will be part of ‘Get Active! Singapore’ in the lead up to the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2017.”

The starting point will be at Gardens by The Bay and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng will do the flag-off at 7.30am on Aug 3.

There will also be two mass runs, the first with NorthLight School students at their school on the same day at around 9am to mark Deloitte’s partnership with the school to provide opportunities for the students and Deloitte staff to engage and learn from one another.

The second will take place on Aug 3 and 4 for Deloitte staff and alumni at Gardens by the Bay to foster bonding and teamwork.

The 5000 for 50 will finish at the Deloitte Pesta Sukan netball carnival on August 5, where the finishing flag-off will be done by Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin, who is also the president of the Singapore National Olympic Council.

Apart from Gardens by the Bay, the runners will also pass by Sport Singapore’s offices and the Mediacorp Campus.

You can be part of the Deloitte Singapore 5000 for 50 run too by joining in the mass runs at Gardens by the Bay on Aug 3 and 4 at 6.30pm. It will be a loop route of around 5km. Register your interest by emailing apang [at] deloitte.com.
