SINGAPORE – Spanish side Atletico Madrid arrived in Singapore this morning (May 20) for a charity match, just days after they beat city rivals Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey.
Diego Simeone’s men are scheduled to make their first media appearance later today at a press conference for the Peter Lim Charity Cup. They will be conducting a football clinic tomorrow for players from 13 schools at the Jalan Besar stadium.
The football clinic will also feature a mass game between 130 children and the Spanish giants, the first time such a match is being held in Singapore. It will also see the top four teams from the 2012 B Division championships team up with Atletico players to take part in a tournament.
Two-time Europa League champions Atletico are set to field a full-strength side, including Colombian forward Radamel Falcao — the Spanish Primera Division’s third- highest scorer against the Singapore select side on Wednesday night. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the Singapore Olympic Foundation.
