SINGAPORE - And so the big question: is Teo Hock Seng planning to take part in the upcoming FAS elections?

The Straits Times reported on Friday that the 70-year-old will be part of FAS interim council president Lim Kia Tong’s team for the first-ever polls which must be held by May. Lim declined comment when asked by the newspaper, while Teo declined to confirm his involvement in the elections.

However, during his interview with TODAY, Teo said that he has not been approached to run.

“Nobody has called me at this point of time so I don’t have a team,” he said. Then he added with a wink: “They can call me on the phone, but then again, I need not answer.”

But when the laughs subsided, Teo revealed that he will only consider joining a team for the elections if he agrees with their aims and plans.

“At this juncture, let’s go step by step,” he said. “I don’t know when (the elections) are coming, but I understand there are at least two or three teams (set to compete).

“But if I can contribute and they call me…it’ll depend on the team and what’s their objective.”

However, he added that running football is not about having grand plans, or making promises to members of the fraternity.

“You don’t need a big manifesto, you just need a heart to run football,” he said.

“You have to be on the ground...football is a game played on the ground. You don’t need an academic to run football.”
