SINGAPORE — Eight-time S-League champions Warriors FC announced last night the appointment of Alex Weaver as their new head coach, replacing former Singapore international V Selvaraj who stepped down earlier this week.
Despite their illustrious history, the club has had a disappointing campaign this season, where they are currently 10th in the 12-team S-League standings.
The appointment, effective tomorrow, ends weeks of uncertainty for 36-year-old Weaver who had started the season as head coach of Hougang United.
Asked to take a back seat in early April by the Hougang management, his departure from the club was never formally announced, and he spent weeks attending games as an “observer”.
Warriors FC Chairman Lam Shiu Tong welcomed the Englishman’s appointment, saying: “We are delighted to have Alex Weaver join our team.
“With his knowledge and passion for football, I am confident that he can bring the Warriors back to our winning tradition.”
Last night, Warriors FC drew 2-2 with Balestier Khalsa in the StarHub League Cup at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium. In another result, in the same competition, the Courts Young Lions shocked Tampines Rovers 3-2 at the Clementi Stadium.
