SINGAPORE — To further engage the community, the Singapore Sports Hub yesterday announced the launch of “Stepper”, a new vertical endurance event to be held at the National Stadium on Oct 3.
Positioned as a community event, the Singapore Sports Hub Stepper is targeted at recreational and competitive participants and features four categories (Community Fun Stepper, Kids Climb, Competitive Speed Stepper and Competitive Enduro Stepper), where participants can expect to climb up and down more than 3,000 steps at the National Stadium.
“This (National Stadium) is an iconic stadium which can be used for sport events, concerts, community runs and religious events,” said Sports Hub chief operating officer Oon Jin Teik yesterday.
“But the spectator stands and seating area is by itself very interesting. Vertical runs held in buildings tend to be in columns but in this area, we are open, so we can exploit the wonders of the inside of the stadium.”
Three sponsors — Great Eastern, Kallang Wave Mall and Compressport — have also come on board, while the Singapore Women’s Everest Team, comprising Jane Lee, Sim Yihui, Joanne Soo, Lee Peh Gee, Lee Li Hui and Esther Tan, are the event’s ambassadors.
The Singapore Sports Hub will today also begin a FIT-Stepper programme to educate participants about the physical demands required in stair climbing and improving their physical conditioning. NOAH TAN
