SINGAPORE - Top Singapore swimmer Joseph Schooling looks set to continue his studies and training at the University of Texas. The 18-year-old, who was granted a long-term deferment from National Service earlier this week to prepare for the 2016 Olympics, is understood to have chosen the Austin-based varsity mainly because its head coach is Eddie Reese. Reese had led the United States men's swim team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Michael Phelps won a record eight gold medals. Schooling, who will graduate from the Bolles School in Florida next year, is considered one of the top butterfly swimmers in his age group in the United States, and holds five Singapore national records. He had been granted deferment from NS until Aug 31, 2016 to train for the Olympics that year, where he is seen as a medal prospect.
