SINGAPORE — National sailors Darren Choy and Jeremiah Yeo have clinched the gold medal for Singapore in the men’s double-handed 470 class at the 28th South-east Asian (SEA) Games sailing competition this afternoon (June 13).

Despite coming in third in the medal race today at the National Sailing Centre, Choy — who vowed to bounce back after a disappointing bronze medal in the same class at the 2013 SEA Games — and new partner, Yeo, emerged the overall champions in the four-strong fleet with 18 points over 10 races.

Philippines’ Troy Tayong and Emerson Villena took the silver with 24 points, while Thailand’s Thanaphong Kamonvat and Navee Thamsoontorn were third (25).

In the women’s 470 class, Singapore’s Savannah Siew and Amanda Ng finished third with 26 points. As there were only teams from three regional countries that competed in the event, a bronze medal is not awarded. Malaysia’s Nuraisyah Jamil and Mohamad Sayed Norashikin took the gold medal with 13, while Thailand’s Panida Suksomporn and Narisara Yu-Sawat clinched silver (18). ADELENE WONG
