SINGAPORE – Swimmer Tao Li has secured Singapore’s 50th gold medal at the 28th Southeast-Asian (SEA) Games, matching the record haul that was set in 1993, after she won the women’s 100m backstroke at the OCBC Aquatic Centre this evening (June 9).

The 25-year-old posted a time of 1minute 02.67 seconds in the event to win her third gold medal at this year’s Games – she had previously won the women’s 50m butterfly and the women’s 50m backstroke.
Indonesia’s Kania Ratih (1:04.38) and the Philippines’ Ashley Yu (1:04.80) settled for the silver and bronze respectively.
Table tennis players Lin Ye and Zhou Yihan had won Singapore’s first gold medal at this year’s Games in the women’s doubles final on June 2.
At the 1993 SEA Games in Singapore, the Republic finished fourth with 50 gold, 40 silver and 74 bronze medals.
