Nokia Lumia 925: More camera than smartphone

SINGAPORE — Nokia’s latest Lumia smartphone is no ordinary phone. At the launch party, the company decided to focus on its camera capabilities before selling other features such as its HERE navigation suite — with indoor maps of 48 malls from 313@Somerset to Bugis Junction — or its Nokia Music app.
But it has good reason to. The Lumia 925 boasts an 8.7-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation and Carl Zeiss optics. It delivers sharp, blur-free images and captures up to 10 images at once with its Smart Camera function so you can choose a Best Shot or Action Shot — with moves displayed in ghost-like sequence, like Bruce Lee executing his no-shadow kick.
Capturing multiple images also allows you to Change Faces (for the best face shots in group photos) or even remove a photobomb. Even though it doesn’t have a shutter or aperture-priority modes, or even a manual one, it offers crisp, clear pictures at your fingertips.
While still photos turn out vivid and sharp, even in low light, some camera functions did not work well for me. For example, try as I might, I was not able to remove photobombs — even ones I deliberately created — and subjects in Action Shots retained an ugly halo resembling a bad etch-out.
If your focus is social network posts, particularly food shots, this camera, however, is more than sufficient.
Aside from the camera, reading and surfing on the smartphone’s 4.5-inch AMOLED, Gorilla Glass PureMotion HD+ display is comfortable on the eyes, even in harsh sunlight.
The Nokia Lumia 925 is currently available at S$699 without contract.
