We refer to the letter, "To reduce crowding at FairPrice stores, offer discounts to seniors from Mondays to Fridays" (June 3) and thank Mr Paul Wee Kian Nghee for his suggestions.

Through the Senior, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation discount schemes, NTUC FairPrice helped seniors save more than S$11 million last year.

These exclusive discounts were supposed to have stopped at the end of last year, but were again extended by another year.

These discounts are designed to be offered in the first half of the week to cater to seniors. This is so that they need not jostle with the typically busier crowds at our stores towards the second half of the week and weekends.

The current three days of dedicated shopping discounts for seniors provide them with the flexibility and choice to shop at a time convenient for them.

We also assure Mr Wee that customer traffic in our stores has remained stable and the crowds have been manageable during this phase of heightened alert against Covid-19.

The safety of our customers and staff members is always a priority and we continue to ensure strict safe-management measures and practices in our stores.
