Heavy vehicles in residential areas a threat to safety
I wish to affirm the point in “Impose tougher penalties on errant heavy vehicle drivers” (April 12) that one needs only to observe any expressway for 10 minutes to see heavy vehicles speeding.

The situation is equally bad, if not worse, on other roads such as Corporation Road. In many such residential areas, drivers of heavy vehicles are a threat to children and the elderly when they do not give way at crossings.
We should not let drivers of heavy vehicles command our roads. We need immediate action to make tracking devices compulsory to keep these vehicles under control. Penalties for these drivers should indeed be enhanced and monitoring increased.
