The Delta Swimming Complex along Tiong Bahru Road recently closed for a major renovation that would take a year.

Many swimmers who used this pool now visit the Queenstown Swimming Complex on Stirling Road.

Queenstown’s swimming pool is one of the oldest in Singapore. The toilet facilities are not user-friendly for elderly people and those with disabilities.

There is only one sitting toilet; the four others are squat toilets. Even so, the sitting one does not have handrails or hooks for these vulnerable groups.

The public, moreover, has to climb nearly 50 steps to the entrance of the pool.

Did the toilet’s design factor in the needs of elderly folk and people with disabilities?

I hope government agency Sport Singapore does a critical evaluation of the facilities in the swimming complex.

Safety and user-friendliness are of paramount importance to seniors and people with disabilities.
