In “S’pore risks overreacting on warship issue: SBY” (Feb 11), Indonesia’s President talked about its friendship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and strong bilateral ties with Singapore.

Yet, he confirmed the naming of the KRI Usman Harun navy ship after the two marines who were executed as murderers in the bombing of MacDonald House. Indonesia is affirming that it has been right to have wronged us, then.

This makes a mockery of the 1967 ASEAN Declaration, to which Indonesia was party and under which the members pledged to promote regional peace and stability through respect for justice and the rule of law.

Indonesia has celebrated two saboteurs, thus displaying disrespect and insensitivity to the people and Government of Singapore. There is no overreaction on our part.
