We refer to Mr David Kwok Ng Kan’s letter, “Queenstown Swimming Complex not user-friendly for seniors, people with disabilities” (Nov 6).

Sport Singapore is committed to providing senior-friendly and inclusive sports facilities for all Singaporeans.

We refurbish older facilities, such as Queenstown and Delta, in phases to include accessibility improvements. A refurbished Delta Sport Centre will be ready by the end of next year, and extensive renovation work for Queenstown Sport Centre — which houses the Queenstown Swimming Complex — will begin in 2021.

In 2016, we built a platform lift and stair lift at Queenstown Sport Centre for users who find it challenging to use the steps.

We will be converting some of the squatting toilet seats to sitting ones. We will also be installing more handrails. Future refurbishment will incorporate accessibility ramps, community gardens, fitness equipment suitable for seniors and people with disabilities, as well as more spacious changing rooms and toilet cubicles.

Similarly, the refurbished Delta Sport Centre will include improvements such as an accessibility ramp into the training pool to cater for elderly residents and those with disabilities.

We thank Mr Kwok for his feedback and seek his understanding while we work on upgrading our sports facilities in phases.
