Quiz of the week

How well do you know the news? Test your knowledge.

Amid the ongoing haze situation here, Singaporeans who have the luxury of going indoors at will are buying the N95 and other masks, which some of them do not even bother to wear.

On the other hand, I have passed by construction sites near my place in Sembawang and seen workers going about strenuously without any masks or form of respiratory cover despite hazy surroundings.

Companies and contractors should look into this matter and regularly monitor the welfare of their workers, the ones who truly deserve a buffer against the haze in performing rigorous activity with possible health risks.

I hope that they can be provided with masks and taught how to utilise these properly. At least, they should be given proper and adequate rest in a sheltered place to lessen their vulnerability to harmful particulate matter.

After all, they are building the shelters we take refuge in so comfortably.
