We refer to Mr Hu Hao’s letter, “Give coaches priority to book ActiveSG badminton courts” (July 20), and thank him for his feedback.

Our badminton courts are in high demand and we have to cater to the needs of all players.

The situation is exacerbated by safe management limits on capacity and the unavailability of Dual-Use Scheme school facilities, which provided the public with more sports amenities. The use of these facilities remains suspended because of the Covid-19 situation.

Therefore, we cannot give priority to freelance badminton coaches above the rest, beyond the allocation for learn-to-play programmes and academy programmes by ActiveSG and the Singapore Badminton Association. These programmes provide for a reasonable volume of training at this time until capacity constraints ease.

Sport Singapore’s safe management measures are put in place for everyone’s safety. We urge everyone to cooperate with our staff members and safe distancing ambassadors to ensure our facilities and common spaces remain safe for all.

We view any violation of the safe management measures very seriously, as this compromises the national effort to minimise community transmission of the coronavirus.

We will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and encourage users to provide us with their thoughts at sport_qsm [at] sport.gov.sg.
