Authorities step up measures at checkpoints during Christmas season

01:54 Min
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is gearing up to deal with heavier traffic at the land checkpoints as a daily crowd of 430,000 – instead of the usual 400,000 – are expected to head in and out of Johor in the last two weekends of this year.  The ICA shared this in a media briefing on Wednesday (Dec 13) in view of the coming Christmas and New Year holidays, ‪from Dec 22‬ to 26, and ‪Dec 29‬ to New Year’s Day respectively. They would “monitor the queue situation on a real-time basis closely and adopts a multi-pronged approach in traffic management measures” to deal with the “bunching effect” when a high volume of travellers move in and out of the land checkpoints “at the same time”, the ICA explained.  Travellers can do their part to prevent delays by ensuring they are using the right passports, or a passport with a remaining validity of six months or more before setting off on their journey.
