“I’m happier, but I face a different set of problems,” said Mr Chong Suan, 44, who left his job as an engineer in 2017 to set up Chuan Ji Bakery in 2017.
The father of two has yet drawn a salary from this business as he taps on his savings to keep the shop going. Yet, the shop has also became a huge part in his life. It is now a “gathering point” for his family, and he spends a lot more time with his 79-year-old mother now, who helps out in the kitchen.
“When old customers taste these biscuits, you can see their happy face. They thank you for bringing this back, and that’s what keeps me going.”
