Najib faces jail, fine after being charged in 1MDB case; trial set for next year

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian authorities have charged former leader Najib Razak with corruption and criminal breach of trust in connection with a multibillion-dollar scandal surrounding state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
On Wednesday (July 4), Najib pleaded not guilty to the four charges against him - three for criminal breach of trust and one for abuse of power - and was granted bail at RM1 million. The former leader was ordered to surrender his passports.
His trial is tentatively set for 19 days next year, from February 18 - 28, March 4 - 8, and March 11-15.
