TAIPEI — A three-year-old girl was lifted into the air by a large kite on Sunday (Aug 30) at a festival in Taiwan, escaping with only abrasions to her face and neck.

The harrowing incident happened at the Hsinchu City International Kite Festival in northern Taiwan, reported Focus Taiwan.

In a video posted on Facebook, a girl appears to be caught at the end of a large orange kite.

The kite is seen twisting in the air, tossing the girl high above a crowd of screaming spectators for several seconds before being lowered to the ground.

According to the report, the girl was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was found to have suffered abrasions, but no broken bones.

The girl was frightened but was otherwise safe and has returned home, wrote Hsinchu mayor Li Chih-chien in an update on Facebook, adding that other activities at the scene had been suspended.

He also apologised on behalf of the city government and said the incident is under review to prevent similar ones from recurring. AGENCIES
