HONG KONG — Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor was admitted to hospital after suffering an elbow fracture in a fall at her official residence on Monday (Oct 18) night.

Mrs Lam had sought hospital treatment and was diagnosed with a minor right elbow fracture, according to a government statement.

On the doctor’s advice, Mrs Lam will remain in hospital for observation and be on leave for the time being.

A regular meeting of her de facto cabinet, the Executive Council, on Tuesday and the preceding media session would be cancelled, the statement said.

Chief Secretary John Lee Ka-chiu, the city’s No 2 official, will be acting chief executive, the statement said.

Mrs Lam, 64, was reportedly receiving treatment at Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam following the fall at Government House.

Hong Kong’s first chief executive, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, was admitted to the same hospital last month for an undisclosed operation. SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
