Malaysia busts online scam syndicate run by Chinese nationals, nearly 1,000 arrested

PUTRAJAYA — Malaysian authorities have busted the largest online scam syndicate believed to be run by Chinese nationals in the country.

PUTRAJAYA — Malaysian authorities have busted the largest online scam syndicate believed to be run by Chinese nationals in the country.

Nearly 1,000 people were arrested in a raid on the syndicate’s headquarters in Cyberjaya, the Malaysian Immigration Department said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 20).

Pictures posted by the Immigration Department showed a group of more than 20 people standing with their arms behind their head. In another photo, rows of smartphones were seen laid on a table. 

Malaysian news agency Bernama said that the Immigration Department’s director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud is scheduled to hold a press conference on the operation on Friday. AGENCIES
